A Philosophy Rooted in Human Connection and Authenticity
At the core of Claudia and Harry Washington Studio’s design ethos is a belief that good design should transcend aesthetics and foster a deeper connection between people and their environments. The studio’s design manifesto reflects this philosophy, emphasizing the importance of remaining grounded and staying connected to one’s authentic nature.
“Design has become a powerful tool for humans to shape their existence,” the Manifesto states. “However, as a society, we have become enamored with aesthetics and trends, sometimes sacrificing function, a basic principle of good design, without adding real value to people’s lives. The more we seek design as a way to satisfy a desire for solely visual gratification, the more it disconnects us from our authentic nature.”
For Claudia and Harry Washington, design is about enhancing the way people interact with their surroundings. Whether through furniture or interior spaces, their goal is to create designs that are intuitive, purposeful, and personal. Their process is highly collaborative, with each contributing to different aspects of the design journey. Claudia often leads the conceptual, methodological, and editing phases of design, while Harry focuses on developing the volumes and shapes of those concepts. Despite these distinct roles, they constantly exchange ideas and work together throughout the creative process.
