This chair was a statement to finding inspiration from admiration. The first design was inspired by 1960s Hans Wegner Hoop chair. It had a different structure and it was created for a retail project of a shoe brand called Cushe. We needed to make a corner within a shoe store, where this brand could stand out and be highlighted. The chair would be a statement that would also give that casual, outdoor, carefree appeal that the brand has.
At the end, the chair was kept in concept and only one of the Hoop inspired chairs was ever made. But we didn’t want to waste the idea, because we ended up loving the style. We went on to design the Ikono version, which is more inspired in the traditional moon chair that was so popular during that time. Traditionally made in metal and PVC chord, our version is more elaborate, stylized, and elegant.
This chair is a statement to what defines heritage in latin american design. As such, it was included in as part of the New York’s Museum of Art and Design (MAD) Collection of New Territories.
